All bridges from Castletownbere to Dublin

2010, woodcut (book printing ink on newsprint), 63 x 800cm, 2010

American artist Ed Ruscha took photographs of various petrol stations along Route 66 from Oklahoma to Los Angeles, encapsulating the myth of the famous highway in a series of banal pictures. Sebastian Utzni collects All bridges from Castletownbere to Dublin. His documentation is neither photographic nor fast; instead he uses the old fashioned, slow and low-fi woodcut technique. We can imagine the artist’s movements were just as slow as he walked through Ireland – progress that follows a meandering path through his images.
